George Altenberg is a hands-on owner who brings over 30 yrs. of horse
care experience. George and his staff provides 24 hour a day attentive care.
We believe in keeping the horses in a natural setting as much as possible for
these treasures of ours. Most horses at Sherwood Forest Farm live in pastures
categorized by age. Horses live in a herd environment which we believe is
best for them both mentally and pyshically.
The feeding of a palatable, balanced diet is important to a horse’s health.
We feed 2-3xs daily based on the horses individual needs. We use LMF grain,
Platnium Performance,
Adeptus Animal Nutrition supplements and Calf-Manna for horses.
Horses are wormed every 8-10 weeks.
 Horses hoofs
are maintained every 6-12 weeks. Horses are
vaccinated during the Spring and Fall.
We use a "rotation schedule" which
we rotate 5-15 horses through our barn every two weeks throughout the year. This allows us to
handle younger horses more frequently and condition and maintain the older
horses. Our stallions are
kept in stalls with runs attached to the barn. They are free lunged or ridden
every other day. They also enjoy spending several hours a day out in a lush
green pasture. Thank you to
all who contribute to working on the farm:
Javier Sanchez, Joe Johnson, Joe
Riddle, Scott Kendall D.V.M at Woodford Veterinary Clinic, Hagyard
Veterinary Clinic, Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital,
Don Ellars, David Stewart and Mike Toy. Thank you for your help!
We strive for our horses to
live happy lifes. |
